My Students

This year my class is made up a diverse group of individuals. Our school is in a mainly middle-class residential neighborhood in Queens. One third of my first grade class is made up of students who are learning English as a second language. Some of the countries our families come from are: China, Korea, Poland, Colombia, Peru, and Pakistan.

These 5,6 and 7 year olds have a lot of energy, but they are all sweet and eager to learn new and exciting things!

Currently, we are studying Opinion writing, character traits, place value, communities and environments.

My Project

Students will be comfortable and clean while sitting on the floor listening to a book or learning about the day's math lesson on their brand new, beautiful rug! Right now, we are sitting on the clean, but bare floor because we had to throw out our old rug. Sometimes it gets a little cold, but my great students don't complain. It would be nice to surprise them with a nice new one! It will also help them to remember where their rug spots are with an actual rug to show them, with pretty images to remind them where their places are.
