Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Miami Title I School where 75% of the students are Haitian Creole and 25% are Hispanic. My classroom is comprised of 3 and 4 year old boys and girls that come to school eager to learn, play, and make new friends.

All of my students are developmentally delayed, speech impaired, and may have ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

All of my students face great challenges when it comes to learning and even greater challenges when they want to communicate their needs, wants, and feelings.

My Project

Young children with speech problems often have trouble saying the words the right way and find it very hard to express themselves or understand others. Helping my students develop good communication skills is my primary focus for this school year.

My speech impaired students will use the tablet throughout the day with apps designed to help them learn listening, language, and communication skills.

One of the most essential human desires is to be understood and the apps I have researched for my project are created by speech pathologists and other experts in speech impairment that focus on communication and language.
