My Project

Last year, during a Health Ed unit on food insecurity students decided that we should start our very own school food pantry. We do an annual canned food drive during the Fall season which we donate to an outside organization, but realized that we have a lot of families within our school community who are in need.

Our pantry began with only non-perishable items (and this year's drive will help stock the shelves with those items), but we want to step it up, get a fridge, and begin stocking fresh fruit & vegetables, frozen fruits & vegetables; even cooked food and frozen turkeys that we plan to distribute before holiday breaks and for families in need throughout the year.

You probably already know this, but it is really hard to concentrate when you are hungry. Or if you're worried about where your family's next meals will come from. This refrigerator can help alleviate those worries and allow our students to fully focus on learning and just being kids.

Please help us feed our school community the nutritious food that they need to grow healthy, strong bodies and minds!

We are a Title 1, 6-12, non-zoned school which means that our students come from all over Brooklyn, and the majority from low-income homes. We have an extremely diverse student body consisting of Latin X, African-Caribbean, African-American, Central, East, and South Asian, Middle Eastern, Eastern European, White, and Multi-Racial students. Our students are some of the kindest young people you will ever meet and this project can really help them and their families.

Thank you in advance for anything you can contribute to this project. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
