Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every mind is its own world. Imagine how many worlds we get to explore each time we listen to a story and get to hold a book in our hands.

My students are the first generation transitional kindergarten students at our school site.

Their abilities range from learning how to write their names to beginning readers. Our school is a public school located in a high poverty area. Our students are eager learners who genuinely enjoy coming to school.

My Project

Being that our school is located in "poor" area, some parents have little time or ability to read to their children. Having a listening center in our classroom will give my students the opportunity to listen to stories and thereby increase vocabulary. It will also increase their independent reading time which helps build reading stamina and fluency as they become independent readers.

The lifelong love of learning is something I encourage in my students.

Having this listening center available for them will inspire them to become independent readers as well as help them with reading comprehension skills.
