This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a school where, although the majority of our scholars are considered low income and or in need of assistance, many of them also wake up each morning with an eager heart and mind to go into our safe environment.
Last year my class had a very special dynamic, thirteen out of twenty of my students had been retained and were repeating the third grade for the second time.
Due to Covid-19 taking time away from us, I have decided to loop up to fourth grade with this amazing bunch of students.
From my scholars who are more reserved to my scholars with an abundance of energy, each and every scholar is ultimately persevering for the same goal, which is to be the best learner they can be. My class is filled with 22 engaged learners, who are willing to make the best of their educational journey. This all due to the fact that this year I will not only tell them but give them resources for them to understand that they can do it
My Project
We now spend majority of our day looking a computer screen. A read aloud a day always helps to take the stress away. Books are our way of escaping reality for a short period of time.
With these paperback books, we can escape our digital lives and go to a world of imagination.
Not only the students in the classroom will enjoy these books. The students that are learning from home, will escape their home lives while listening to books that open their mind. What a way to escape reality!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
