Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 9th special education students are a group of bright young minds eager and excited to be back in school. They have waited patiently to be back in person and are ready to learn. My students want to become exceptional readers and are in search of a good book. Each student in my classroom views Watts, California, as their home, but their community lacks access to bookstores or nearby libraries.

My Project

These books will accommodate the different reading levels, and book taste my students have. I want to start building a small classroom library for my students and provide them with an opportunity not only to practice reading, but become avid readers. My students have demonstrated their interest in reading but have yet to find their favorite book. I believe my students are capable of finding their favorite book. However, my students have difficulty reading and face challenges as special education students. I want to encourage them that they, too, are scholars and excellent readers, and through practice, they can accomplish anything.
