Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching sixth grade students in a low socioeconomic area is a true passion of mine. Many of these students are also second language learners. I want to foster an interest in reading for pleasure by doing a class reading of well written literature that explores a hero’s journey. Although it may be difficult through distance learning, it’s a challenge well worth taking on.

My Project

These books will provide true adventure as we explore mythology in a modern day setting after studying Ancient Greece. Analyzing an amazing main character, and hopefully fostering an interest in a fantastic reading series are also goals of this project. Traditionally done in a class setting, this class set of books will help distance learners somewhat experience what is done in my face to face classroom. Through reading this novel, my hope is to have my students see the parallel between this text and other examples of a hero’s journey. Just as important is my hope that my students will find a little bit of themselves in Percy and see we all have the ability to conquer inside of us.
