My Students

My NYC 8th Grade Algebra students and I have been sent back to the virtual world - once again learning remotely due to COVID-19 outbreaks. We all loved being in school, making real connections happen in a real classroom, though we are resilient enough to overcome our temporary challenge of not being able to meet face-to-face for a while.

My students have been hit especially hard by COVID-19 - they really looked forward to coming to school each day to interact in a positive and constructive manner.

We take this in stride and are inspired to overcome our plates full of challenges.

We just received an awesome package of support from awesome donors for new notebooks - and this project aims to build on that one. One would think that a proper setup for remote teaching would be provided by the districts of every school in our country, but currently, this is not the case.

My Project

"The best investment is in the tools of one's own trade," according to Benjamin Franklin. We are certainly ready to improve the way we can think, remotely. These materials will allow me to engage with all of my students remotely. A document camera will allow me to host virtual notebooking sessions with my students for algebra skill building and critical thinking. The laptop will let me connect with students, families, and staff to plan and coordinate effective lessons.

The right tools mean everything - using a computer, document camera, notebooks, and light source we can simulate our classroom safely from home - notebooks and all.

Students will be able to follow daily teaching points, build critical handwriting and notebooking skills, and create a comprehensive and cohesive story of algebra basics in the way that they would have been doing, had they been in a real deal classroom.
