My Project

Many of my students have limited speech and this printer will help me create materials to increase their opportunities to communicate. I am especially eager to create communication boards and books that can help them participate in class activities. There is limited access to color printers at my school sites. Having a printer available in my classroom will allow me to give my students visual materials on a daily and weekly basis.

Having colorful, engaging pictures that reflect their world will give my students a way to express their choices and comment on their environment.

One of my preschool students loves to play with a particular animal puzzle, but her only way to express that she wants the puzzle is to reach or point in the direction of the cabinet where it is kept. With a visual choice board created with this printer, she would be able to express whether she wants to play with puzzles, LEGOs, or read a book. When another student tries to take the book away, she could point to a picture of a stop sign to let him know it's her turn to play. My students have limited ways to communicate and this printer could be the first step for many of them to expand these opportunities to express themselves.
