My Students

My students come from various backgrounds and bring so much to our classroom. They are students who are making the transition to high school while dealing with real life issues. Their families live in poverty stricken urban areas. As a teacher I have to get students motivated. I do this with the texts I bring into the classroom and the learning activities we complete. My students are determined to be the first in their families to graduate high school and attend college. Many of my students know that hard work is the only way they can make their goals reality. We are a school that believes that education really is the great equalizer. Our students embody the character and determination of the man we are named after, Frederick Douglass.

My Project

Our school printer jams frequently and is operated by one person. Unfortunately, we do not have an adequate amount of vocabulary workbooks, grammar textbooks, or literature/non-fiction texts. It is essential for students to have a printer so that they can have their own copies of work that they can annotate and keep. Many students will have more time to complete work in class because they will not have to copy down textbook pages into their notebooks.

This printer will give all students who need graphic organizers a tool to help complete their reading and writing assignments.

This printer will also help our school create a literary magazine for written and visual expression.
