My Students

While the classroom picture that is posted shows a beautiful rug, I was sadly informed by the custodial staff in my school that sometime during the summer, it was rolled up while it was wet and mold began to grow. It was unable to be kept due to health risks, and therefore had to be thrown out.

Most of my wonderful Kindergarten students are from low income homes and qualify for free lunch.

Their families don't all speak English and the students haven't all gone to a pre-school, so for many of them this is their first school experience. They attend my school because it is their local public school, but are always eager and excited to come to school each day!

My Project

One of the most important areas in a Kindergarten classroom is the rug area, where students gather several times during the day. Many of our important activities, such as a morning meeting, story time, share time and class lessons take place on a classroom rug. We will gather here on a daily basis, at different times throughout the day for a variety of activities and lessons.

The classroom rug is the place where students come together as a group and sit and learn.

No one would want to gather on the cold tile floor, when they could sit comfortably on a beautiful rug that is designed for organized sitting and personal space. It livens up the classroom space and shows the students they are invited to come sit in a special area to think, listen and learn.
