My Students

I am a co-teacher in a preschool initiative classroom that consists of children with and without an individualized educational program. We are currently teaching three and four-year-old students virtually. I was nervous for myself and our little ones when school started this year because the classroom setting would be virtual. I have found that it is so true that children can be so resilient.

Our three and four-year-old students are absolutely amazing in their ability to be present in our virtual classroom.

Each school day our students sign on with their parent's help and take part in the day's lesson. They are getting to know their peers and greet them by name. It is heartwarming to hear them ask where their peers are when someone has not signed in yet. I take pride in the fact that just like raising their hands in the classroom they are learning to mute themselves and wait for their turns as their peers share ideas and answer questions.

My Project

The lap desks that I am requesting are sorely needed in the virtual classroom setting. A lap desk will allow students to have a structured educational setting in their home. Each of our students will have an area where they can store their school materials and have ease in locating them during and after class time.

A lap desk will allow students to have the same structure they would have in a school classroom in their virtual classroom at home.

There is no mistaking that structure is a key component in the educational process. What better way to help support students, parents, and teachers than to have an area/space that students can visually see as their learning area and not just the teacher on the computer screen. Their lap desk will not turn back into a dinner table, sofa, bed, or coffee table. The lap desk will be their area for learning and when they return to school the lap desk will still be valuable as a portable desk for learning in and out of the school building.
