My Project

Our school is a Title I school, all students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Housing, food security, safety, and stability are all issues our students deal with on a daily basis. For the more than a year, we have lost track of many of our students. They just did not show up, putting them at risk in literacy. Our students face many challenges in their communities and when they come to the classroom I want them to feel safe and welcome by having a safe area for them to go to. For our classroom there are headphones for students to listen to books on cd or when doing yoga they can listen to calm music. A book set of SEL books for learning about our feelings and how to handle them. We are wanting fidget toys- they are good for keeping attention and keeping hands busy when a student is needing to calm their movements. When being in our calm place the rug and pillows would give us a comfortable feeling as if we were at home. We also thought a bookshelf would be good to store our items on so they would be off the floor.
