My Students

Everyone wants to be part of something. Do you remember feeling left out because there weren't enough places to sit? In my classroom, everyone has their own special spot.

I can honestly say that I have some wonderful students.

In just the first two days, they have done an excellent job of coming into my room and finding their seats. These are students who come to us from broken and impoverished homes. The vast majority of them receive free and reduced lunches. I teach students who are extremely transient and many are able to pack their homes and move in less than a day. Many of them do not have a place of their own to retreat to for privacy or to study.

My Project

I am requesting a classroom carpet large enough to seat thirty or more students. Many of the things I do in my music classroom require space for mobility so having chairs arranged is not the best arrangement. Our floor is not carpeted either. I have tried using taped lines on the floor, but some students spend more time peeling the tape off than actually participating in class.

A brightly colored carpet with thirty-five squares would help my students feel more at home in my classroom.

This would allow us to have small groups formed immediately for projects that require groups, such as rhythm band activities. Having a carpet to use as a learning tool will greatly improve our class.
