A Place for Whole Group Learning

Help me give my students a new carpet that is large enough for all children to sit together and comfortably learn.

My Project

My students need a place to sit together. I gather my students on the carpet for various reasons every day. We have our morning meeting which is when we greet each other and set our daily expectations. I read aloud several times a day. All of our whole group learning takes place on the carpet, using the electronic screen, located right in front of the carpet, so everyone can see the lesson.

Spending time on the carpet really does help create a positive classroom community.

My students listen more intently than from their desks. They easily give each other hugs when their classmates express sadness. I've even caught them teaching each other how to tie their shoes. Friendships are truly formed on the carpet!

My current carpet has gotten old and tattered and not all students fit (only 15, causing the rest to sit on the floor.) It would be a wonderful treat to begin a new year with a brand new classroom carpet.
