My Students

My students are 21st-century learners who are eager to use all of the technology available to them. I teach 26 curious fourth-grade scientists in a small Title I school that has an amazing and supportive principal.

My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.

Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.

Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area. Grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children. They have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.

My Project

My students are active learners who are engaged in many hands-on, project-based experiences every single day. As such, they need working spaces that are flexible and allow for cooperative group work. Before Covid we had round tables in our classroom, but because of safety protocols, students must sit at single desks. But not to worry!

My classroom has been transformed from a traditional, square desk space, to one that supports open-ended inquiry and ongoing discussions that facilitate tolerance and diversity.

Our desks are still non-traditional and don't have book storage. Behind the chart seat sacks take care of that, but what about their backpacks?

This project will solve that problem. I am requesting a backpack storage unit for my students to have a place to hang their backpacks so they won't be in the way and help keep the classroom neat and clutter free. My room does not have closets, so this mobile unit is perfect and can be rolled wherever we need it to be!

My 21st-century learners need a classroom that can change to meet their changing needs. Getting this proposal funded is another step in that direction!
