My Students

Do you remember when you got your first camera? The thrill of looking through the lens, and clicking that first picture. We used to have to wait to view them. Much to my surprise once the film was developed, mine were all terrible or blurry and some just dark blobs!

My students are ages 3 to 6 years old and have many different types of handicapping conditions, from wheelchairs to autism, visually impaired and hearing impaired.

We are in a low economic area that is very rural. My students are very inquisitive and love to try new things. Photography is a media that would allow them to work together and not keep anyone from participating because of their handicapping condition. Even the visually impaired can use the zoom feature to help bring the world into focus. They will be able to use photography to keep a journal of science projects, new friends, classroom activities, parties, and field trips--the possibilities are as endless as their imaginations!

My Project

Young children, even those with handicaps, are able to learn so much at such a quick rate. This set of digital cameras will allow them to explore their world on so many different levels and to share their photos with classmates and family. Each individual perspective of the same subject will help them to visualize their own differences as well as how others see the same thing differently. It will be interesting to see how the visually impaired children view things as opposed to those who are not. I'm hoping that this will enable the students to use their imaginations and perhaps make photography a lifelong hobby.

I hope you will consider funding this project, I believe the importance of this experience would make such a difference in these students' education as well as their lives.

Thank You.
