My Students

My students hail from the five boroughs in the city of New York. Our community serves students in the Special Education sector. My students are empowered to become competent and contributing citizens in an integrated, changing and diverse society. This means that students with significant disabilities are provided with a least restrictive environment in general education settings with special education supports.

I try to encourage this in art class to help them in their social, emotional and academic skills.

I encourage them to think freely and express themselves creatively while giving them the tools they need that guide them to create their masterpieces. Once they realize that they recreate art in their own terms, they are more willing and excited to dive into learning and create more art!

My Project

Technology is now at the forefront in classrooms today. Your donations towards tablets and an iPad will enable students to be technology savvy in Art. They will learn how to create, edit and store their work digitally on the online art portfolio, once they have created their masterpieces. Students will be able to create and maintain an online art portfolio where they can view their work samples that will be readily available to them to access anywhere they go to share with their families and friends.

These materials are necessary for the students in my school because a digital portfolio is a great way to instill confidence.

They will be able to document their own work and recognize their own growth. It is a great way for students to understand their own sense of self, their craft, best learning practices and how to thrive. They also have a space to return to and reflect on past creations.
