My Students
Have you ever herd the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words? For my students this could not be more true! My students who are mostly multiply disabled work very hard to reach their goals. Every day we work becoming as independent as possible by developing skills we need for and active life.
I teach science and social studies so I service various populations of children throughout the day.
I see two 12:1:4 class and one 6:1:1 class. My students classifications range from multiply disabled to autistic. We share a building with two other schools. So space is sometimes an issue for us. Our school as a whole is a great place for kids. Everything is student centered and the teachers, staff and administration are really in touch with what our students needs are. Not only do we work on academics but our program has strong components of active daily living skills and vocational skills. We work very hard on getting our students ready for transition meaning we are teaching them to lead as independent a life as possible.
My Project
Many of our students are non verbal or have limited communication skills. They also are not all capable of producing written work. However our students are capable of a lot and have many skills that can not be captured by a data collection sheet or a work sample. I am asking for a color photo printer because photographs is how we are able to capture those proud moments for kids who are mastering their goals. Not only will these photos provide evidence of student learning they will also be shared with parents so they can share in these precious moments with us. My students need a photo printer, ink and photo paper.
Having this photo printer in our classroom will make such a difference not just to my students but my students parents as well.
Imagine being a parent and missing the first time you child stood on their own two feet. Many of my students parents have been waiting and working very hard with their children their whole lives to see some independence. I just want to be able to share with the world thorough pictures the amazing steps my students are taking.
