This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been in a room where everyone is speaking a different language? You look around the room, and all you see is letters or symbols that you can't read. This is a typical day for some of my students. I am asking for a color printer to help me in creating visuals to help my ELLs.

My students come from a variety of different countries around the world.

We are both a Title I and Title III school. The school is a K-5 school in Queens, N.Y. with the majority of the 1,600 students being English language learners, or former English language learners. My students are eager to learn English! I service 95 students by pushing into 3 different classrooms daily as an ESL teacher. Part of my job is to help the classroom teacher by providing scaffolds and activities to clarify important academic vocabulary and concepts.

My Project

There is only one color printer in the computer room for the entire staff and students to share. This color printer will be used to create scaffolds and resources to use with the students to help them learn English. It will not only be used by me, but the 8 other ESL teachers on my team. It will also be used to print the students' work and research for reports or projects in color. The students will no longer be living in a print world of black and white, and they will be able to express themselves using color!!!!

I can print images in color to go along with vocabulary and topics to ensure understanding.

I can print short books in color to go along with topics that are the appropriate reading level for beginner English language learners. This will help to create a more engaging colorful room where students will be able to discuss what they see and be active learners. Students can print images to go along with their ideas to help them express themselves and make connections to what they are learning.
