Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a third grade teacher at an elementary school in the Bronx. Every year the children at the school where I work, publish a book. Last year I taught first grade and we published a class book entitled "All About Me". For the book I photographed each student using a digital camera and printed the photos on the paper provided by the publishing company. The project turned out great. The principal was really impressed with our book and even took it to one of her meetings to show her colleagues. This year, since I am now teaching third grade; each student will be responsible for publishing their own individual book, as opposed to a class book. I thought having a class camera and printer would be great. This would allow for each student to have a multitude of pictures to accompany their writings. The memory card and printer would help to save all the students photos and print them when the time comes to begin compiling the project. The book is an ongoing process, but compilation begins in June. This gives the students an enormous amount of time to take photos and save them on the memory card for later use. The book is also a great treasure to look back at when they get older. The experience I had, when working on my first book with my students last semester, is one that I will never forget. Not only because of the pride they felt, but due to circumstances that occurred while completing it. I know this is going to be a great opportunity for my students to learn many interesting things and to complete a book which will hold an abundance of memories.
