Help me give my students an electronic pencil sharpener, paper towels, hand sanitizer, and tissues.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. G.'s classroom raised $180

My Students
I teach math and science to a group of curious and energetic second graders. Our school is located in an impoverished area of a large city. The crime rate is very high and there are many abandoned houses, empty lots, and rubbish in the neighborhood surrounding the school. Our school is Title I funded, and over 95% of my students qualify for and receive free breakfast, lunch, and after school snack on a daily basis.
I believe any child can achieve greatness if given the right tools.
My students have very loving, caring, and concerned parents who do the best they can, but cannot always afford all the tools their children need to be successful. This is why I need a little extra help making sure my students get everything they need to reach their maximum potential.
My Project
My students need a more efficient electronic pencil sharpener for our classroom. Our current pencil sharpener is on it's last legs and it takes over a minute to sharpen EVERY pencil. On top of that, it only sharpens the pencil halfway, leaving a dull end, instead of the sharp pointy tip that most sharpeners produce. This wastes a lot of classroom time, and often prevents me from ensuring that my ALL my students have a sharpened pencil to complete their assignments. We also need paper towels, tissue, and hand sanitizer for our classroom. As the season changes, many of my students are getting runny noses, and require more and more tissue to get through the day. We need sanitizer to keep everyone else from getting sick, and paper towels for when the school bathrooms runs out.
A new electronic pencil sharpener will really help my classroom run more smoothly and efficiently.
I currently spend half of my prep hour in the morning sharpening pencils. Then, some of my students need their personal pencils sharpened, which takes about 10-15 minutes of our lesson time daily. On bathroom breaks students are frequently coming into class with wet hands needing paper towels. And we go through a lot of sanitizer with all the coughing and sneezing that goes along with the season. We will all be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL for a better pencil sharpener in the classroom, so we won't have to worrying about sharpened pencils, and truly concentrate on our lessons. Also, the paper towels, tissue, and hand sanitizer will keep my students happy and healthy. Thank you so much for your support!
