My Students

I am an AIS teacher located in New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first, second, and third-grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.

When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.

It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.

My Project

I am always stressing the written word to my wonderful students. I emphasis that it is the way people communicate throughout the world. Having said that, I realize they are only children and need to make a stronger connection to their words.

Imagine a child painting their favorite scene from a book, with all the important and tiny details necessary to make the painting fascinating.

Now think about that child excited to write about their painting. It is a lovely vision.

The only problem is we need canvases for our art/writing project.

The child produced painting will give my students the freedom to express themselves through art and yet also the ability to use words as an art form also. They will definitely realize that details truly do make a story interesting.
