My Students

Graphic novels are a great way to get reluctant readers into books. The graphics support the text and aid in comprehension. Students enjoy reading graphic novels because of the visual appeal and the readability of the text.

My sixth grade students have a wide range of reading ability.

However, they all are drawn to reading graphic novels. My students are continuing to add to their toolbox of reading skills and strategies, and need an opportunity to apply those to a variety of texts.

My Project

I have a limited selection of graphic novels in my classroom library. They never stay in the basket for long. Students constantly sign-out those books. Adding more graphic novels to our library will give more students an opportunity to read graphic novels. For some students, it is the only way to get them into reading.

When the graphic novels become part of my classroom library, over 100 students will have access to books they want to read.

The impact of those books will continue as I get new students each year. All it takes is one book to change the reading life of a child.
