This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Many classroom libraries are filled with books that only represent part of the classroom population. My classroom is home to 18 students from many different backgrounds. My students are Asian, African American, Caucasian, and Arabic. They are motivated scholars who enjoy learning and growing their minds.
Books are not just windows into other worlds, but they are mirrors - mirrors in which young readers can see themselves.
I would love to make my classroom library more diverse, enabling all of my students to pick up books and see themselves, or even take a step into someone else's world. These books would be an amazing addition to my classroom and well loved by my students!
