Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a very low socioeconomic community where they are constantly limited to exploring the world around them. They are used to the words "no" and "not now" which limits their understanding of all the world has to offer and stifles their dreams. I want a world without "no" for them.

I teach an ICT class where my my students can be socially and academically challenged.

However, they are still intelligent and clever students who in the end want to succeed. They have taught me patience, resilience, and to reach beyond my classroom boundaries and economic limits to help them unlock the riches of our world. Some of my students come to school already feeling like a failure either because they have no parental assistance with homework or not enough food in their tummies. Most of my students spend their summer vacations at home while other are traveling and seeing the world. In our school, the teachers tend to take on roles such as mothers, fathers, physician, and counselor. We go to any lengths to provide for our underfunded classrooms that lack updated books and resources that helps our children to be able to compete with the rest of the world.

My Project

The resources we requested will motivate children to read which will open their minds to a world beyond the walls in their apartments. It will help them to develop a respect for cultures and an understanding of our global community. The Storyworks and Scholastic News magazines will expose our children to happenings around the world that could inspire them to build dreams of becoming a future leader that will make a difference for the underprivileged people as well as ensuring that our Earth is taken care of. They could even dream of becoming a scientist, historian or archaeologist. They will engage in digital learning as well as digital games that will help them to broaden their vocabulary and understanding of concepts. The videos will enhance their cognitive abilities and intellect. These magazines will unlock a better future for our students and change the "no" into "yes".

This project will make a difference in the lives of our children by showing them that the world cared enough to help them.

Your donations will help our students unlock their dreams and will turn failure into success. They will develop vocabulary, comprehension and critical thinking skills and empathy as well as respect for cultures around us. Our children will learn to break free from the walls that have kept them away from the riches of our world.
