My Students

Give the gift of donating a new carpet that is clean, spacious, and colorful so my kindergarten students will be proud of saying that it belongs to them.

I teach Kindergarten at a Title I school.

Many of my students are entering school for the first time. My students sit on the carpet most of day for whole group instruction, small group activities, and to read. My students currently sit on a carpet that is 7 years old and it is starting to show wear and tear. The carpet has long pieces of tape to section off squares for the students to sit on. Unfortunately our carpet is not big enough to make large equal spaces for each student to sit on. Students have small spaces to sit on therefore they feel restrained when they sit on the carpet. As a result, my students can only sit on the carpet for a small period of time because they are unable to stretch out their legs or arms without bumping into another student.

My Project

My kindergarten students will sit on the carpet, in their own spacious squares, and engage in whole group lessons. They will no longer be confined to the small squares that are outlined by tape. The tape easily comes off the carpet when students walk on the carpet. Some students have been distracted by the tape and have picked on the tape until it comes off. The carpet that I am requesting is 9 feet by 12 feet and has 30 colorful squares. My students will have enough room to move within their squares. They will be able to turn around to "think, pair, share" with their neighbors without being too close to them. They will have their own carpet space to call their own.

By contributing to our classroom project you will give my kindergarten students a space to call their own on their carpet.

My students will not have to worry if they are too close to their classmates. They will be able to stretch out if they need to without bumping into other students. If my students do not have to worry about these small issues, then they will focus their attention on the instruction and learn!
