My Students

Remember the first time you read a chapter book, the excitement you felt that you could read a "big kid" book? How it changed how you saw yourself as a reader. My First Graders want that experience this year.

My First Graders are a sweet group of students from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Some come from homes with little or no technology or books. Others come from homes where bedtimes stories are a daily ritual. All of them want to read well, and they are all hard workers. They are all determined to be chapter book readers this year. Their reading levels range from Kindergarten up to the end of Second Grade. Some are ready for chapter books now, and the others will be ready as the year goes on.

My Project

These books will help students develop their reading and comprehension levels. They will be a part of our classroom library that students have access to everyday. Students will be able to select the book they want to read, and read it at their pace with my assistance or by themselves. When they are finished they simply put it back and get another. Students will be allowed to take them home to read with their family. These books will be discussed, and read over and over again. They will be a stepping stone in turning these early readers into lifelong lovers of books.

Bringing chapter books into our First Grade classroom will develop our reading and comprehension levels.

The chapter books selected are at their reading and interest levels, which helps develop that love of reading all kids have when they first learn to read.
