My Students

I am a third year teacher working with about seventy-five, eighth graders. We are from a rural area and the majority of my students come from low-income families. As with most teachers, I struggle to fill my classroom each year with the many things that students need to be successful.

Because my students often come from low-income families, I need to have my classroom library stocked with books that I know will entice even the most hesitant of readers.

By providing a vast collection just steps away from their seat, I can ensure every single one of my students will have something that is sure to spark their interest!

My Project

Having a classroom library is a great way to support my students' reading growth everyday. Unfortunately, at the end of every school year, a few books are MIA, leaving some once completed collections, incomplete. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books are probably the most popular for my middle schoolers, which is why I cannot ever seem to keep them from year to year. This project will give me the opportunity to replenish some of my missing-in-action books so that my students this year don't miss out.

Books that belong in a series are a great way to keep a child's interest, because if they find a book interesting and there are four more behind it, the child is hooked on five books; that is awesome!

It is important to have the complete series, at least the most up-to-date volumes, so that when the child finishes one book, the next one is ready for him or her!
