My students need 30 copies of The Westing Game so all students can read from their own copy.

My Students
My students are a fun, energetic group of sixth graders, attending a Title I intermediate school in Connecticut. They come from all areas of town and are mostly from an urban setting. This year, our entire district receives free lunch. Unfortunately, funding is extremely limited and gaining access to resources can be challenging. I want my classroom to be a place where my students can comfortably learn, in a safe and exciting environment, but I also want to give them every opportunity possible to help them succeed.
My Project
Who doesn't love a good book? Well, some students haven't experienced that excitement of delving so deep into a novel that they forget where they are. This year, I'd like to implement more literature circles and novel studies to help students develop skills, but also a love for reading.
With enough copies for everyone, The Westing Game will hook students into a mystery so exciting, they'll forget that they're learning valuable reading skills.
One of the skills we work on all year long is determining the theme of a story. This novel provides several themes for discussion and analysis, especially that appearances can be deceiving. Such a theme can be applied to many real-world experiences.
Students will build fluency, strengthen comprehension, add vocabulary, and enjoy the journey of reading a good mystery. I can't wait to share this book with my students.
