Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I teach at a Title One school in Antioch, California. Approximately 70% of our students recieve free or reduced lunches. This year I have a wonderful self-contained sixth grade ELD (English Language Development) class. My students are so awesome this year that they are truly a blessing. I recently introduced a lesson that we will be starting next week. It is a history lesson on cultures. My group of students do not have a formal history class this year, so during their elective time I wanted to do a lesson that was both fun and educational. They will be working in small group to create their own culture. They will have to give it a name, say what time frame it was in, explain a possible migration, and make up their culture's art, clothing, language, music, religion, jewelry, government, etc...Then when they are finished it is my goal to take each group and assign them a location in a vacant portable to feature their culture and its artifacts in their own museum. They are really looking forward to this assignment, as it incorporates a lot of the wonderful aspects of learning that the enjoy such as research, art, and working in a group. I am requesting materials to help with the various aspects of this lesson, as well as a camera with which to document it and hopefully put their museum in the yearbook and on the school's website for all to enjoy. Please consider us for your contribution. Thanks!!!
