Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

By the end of the school year, I would like to give my students the opportunity to be well read and be immersed in a variety of books.

My students are 7th graders in Queens, New York.

My students are respectful, curious, and hard working. At my school, the administration and parents are very supportive of literacy and encourage books that will motivate all readers. Reading is strongly supported and we are always looking for ways to improve motivation and reading achievement.

My Project

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare is an excellent play to introduce children to Shakespeare's work. By bringing Shakespeare into the classroom, rigor will be increased greatly. There is also a lot that one can do when teaching Shakespearean plays such as acting, creative tasks, etc. "Wonder" by RJ Palacio is a wonderful book with an even better message. Any middle school child can relate to this story because we are all always trying to fit in and find our place in the world. These are two new units I hope to teach for next year and I am really excited about them.

The Common Core state test just gets harder each year.

Therefore, I truly believe that it is important to give opportunities for your students to read as many texts as possible. Students should have a broad range read by the end of the school year so that they are as prepared as they can be.
