A Matter of Fact, We Can Subtract With Reflex Math

Help me give my students a year membership to Reflex Math to build math fluency using an interactive, motivating, and engaging online program!

My Students

The special educators at our school know the value of automaticity when it comes to fact fluency. If students don't know their facts, it can be a challenge for them to learn the new concepts in our school's new Investigations math lessons. Teachers have tried flash cards, and “free" online math fact programs, but students need something more engaging.

Currently, at our school there are 64 English Language Learners enrolled out of 337 students, which is about 19% of the total population.

This percentage is more than twice the district’s percentage. About 25% of students of Special Education services receive an Individual Education Plan for academic support and/or social/emotional support.

In my role as a full-time Learning Center teacher, I provide ongoing support that will allow each student to be academically, socially and emotionally successful! My role includes providing consultation to head teachers and direct services in the areas of math, reading, and writing. My students have a variety of learning needs (Dyslexia, Specific Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Neurological) and emotional/ social needs (Autism Spectrum, Anxiety).

My Project

In my classroom, students will use Reflex Math on a daily basis. Students grade 2+ will strength their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts online. Our plan is to work it into classroom morning work each day because I've seen how quickly students build their fluency by using the program on a regular basis. Time on Reflex math will also be assigned for homework and can count towards students' math logs. My co-teacher and I can keep track of student growth because the program assesses each student and identifies their baseline. Each student has a fact tree and students and teachers can see exactly which facts they are working on and which facts they are having difficulty solving. By becoming fluent in their math facts, when students move to the next grade level they will be able to focus on the concepts instead of counting on their fingers or consulting multiplication fact cards and charts.

Knowing facts fluently, students free up their working memory to work on more difficult steps and tasks.

Funding for a teacher license will help 10 of my students become fluent much faster. The benefits of fact fluency will be evident during lessons where students can focus on learning new concepts and successfully make efficient and accurate calculations. Students need to know their facts. Reflex takes students at every level and helps them quickly gain math fact fluency and confidence. Reflex Math motivates students to learn through the use of technology! The program is full of games that students love. Also, teachers and parents love the powerful reporting system that allows them to monitor progress and celebrate success! Students can earn printable milestone certificates.
