Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from struggling communities across all the five boroughs. Many of their families are immigrants from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. Our students struggle academically and often lack the needed skills to be successful in high school but with commitment of our school community we strive to overcome those obstacles. We have a large number of students that have Individual Education Plan's due to a wide range of disabilities as well as a significant number of students that have newly immigrated to the United States and are English Language learners. Recently we replaced all smart boards with Promethean boards which are great for my visuals learners. However this upgrade left me unable to use many of my resources.

My classroom needs a laptop to help not limit my students' learning.

Since most of them are visual learners teaching with film, photos and will ensure that everyone is learning.

My Project

In today's classroom technology has changed the way teachers teach and students learn. It has been very frustrating to be in a classroom where my access to the internet has been limited. For this reason my ability to facilitate my students' learning and their ability to learn has been hindered.

Each classroom should have a computer today that works.

This laptop will enable me to not only prepare my lessons better but can be used in the classroom on a daily basis by both myself and my students. Students can use the laptop to look up information to questions they have during class or with help with homework when staying after school. It will also allow me to access key resources that will help my students who learn visually by connecting it to the Promethean board. It can also be used when conferencing with students one on one or in small groups.
