My Students

"To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark." -Les Miserables.

My students are an amazing group of 3rd graders.

They are filled with an excitement for learning and adventure. My students come to school each day ready to learn and curious to know what kind of challenges I will work them through for the day. They are hard workers, great thinkers, and team players.

My Project

During these first few weeks of school we have been doing author studies in my class. My students have enjoyed reading the few books that I already have for each author, but they are eager to read more books! My students will be able to study different authors themes, lessons, character traits, look into inferencing and sequencing through these books written by Kevin Henkes, Patricia Polacco, and Chris Van Allsburg.

Having access to more of these books for my author studies units will help my students to be able to build a greater depth of knowledge of story elements, connections to different texts, and they will be able to also make personal connections to the stories.

Books open up new worlds and possibilities for students. I want to continue to build upon their eagerness and love of reading.
