My Students
Our school is Title I school-wide. Over half of our students receive free or reduced lunches and 42% received a score of basic/below basic in reading on the state assessment. The students I will be teaching need a little "boost" with reading skills, and I am very excited to be their teacher.
I hope not only to teach my students reading skills, but also give them the tools to be good communicators and to advocate for themselves.
Being a good reader promotes self-confidence and creativity, improves communication skills, has a positive effect on parent-child bonding, and improves brain development. A love for reading = a love for learning! Therefore, my hope is to create a caring relationship with all of my students and give them them the skills they need and deserve to find their love for reading!
My Project
All children are unique and special in their own way, and the way they learn is no different. Children should be given the opportunity to learn with different teaching strategies. I hope to have a classroom with auditory, visual and kinesthetic/tactile materials. The materials I have chosen will give my students the opportunity to have hands-on and textured materials while learning to read.
The key component of in a culture of learning and caring is the power of choice.
In an environment where students have a choice in what and how they learn, along with individualized opportunities to demonstrate their understanding will empower students to want to learn and becoming amazing readers!
