This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a third-grade teacher in an inner-city public school district.
Most of my students are below level in reading.
I have a variety of reading levels in my classroom and some special needs students.
Unfortunately, a lot of my students are not exposed to different types of literature and lack prior knowledge.
Some obstacles that my students face are a lack of financial means to buy books and someone to encourage them to read daily. I want to foster in them a love for literature. It can be hard to afford books, and I purchase a lot of my classroom supplies out of pocket, sometimes books come last.
By gifting my classroom a whole library of read-aloud stories, I can help my students' love of reading blossom and expose them to various topics such as seasons, holidays, celebrations, and differences.
