Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When my kindergarten students enter my classroom, they are still very young and are expecting a fun-filled day with dancing, singing, and several different activities. I teach through music each day, knowing that my students will learn through the songs.

Our school is a Title I community school, where 100% of all the students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Several of my students enter Kindergarten with no previous school experience. Their families rely on the teachers to provide all the necessary skills for life and for the rest of their education.

My Project

I am requesting 1 iPod, 1 protective case, and 1 Bluetooth Speaker System for music in the classroom. Because my students are expected to learn so much through their first year in school, I teach through music. It helps them to retain more information through tunes, and also gives them a "brain break" during the day. I use songs for teaching calendar, math, literacy, science and social studies. My students thrive when they are able to tie music and body movements to what they are learning.

I am entering my second year of teaching, and do not have all the resources needed to do the type of teaching I do.

Since I am still so new, I have music that has been provided from a colleague. The iPod and CD player will provide an easy way for my students and I to access the music. With these items, I can make sure that I have a couple of different ways to play the music for the children. The technology that you will help to provide will show my students how to use it and how to take care of it.
