Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are incredibly insightful, and full of joy. Despite not always feeling successful or capable in academic work, they set goals for themselves to lead them to personal growth. Although some of my students have previously struggled with reading, they have begun to discover their own reading interest and habits. Ultimately, they are learning to engage with, and be engaged by connecting what they read to their own life experiences. This means they bring so much thoughtfulness into our classroom conversations about literature.

My Project

Many students enter high school having already disengaged from school, and so many struggle to identify themselves as proficient readers. With technology at such a close reach, students are able to find engaging content that they sometimes struggle to find in literature.

When teachers are able to provide access to relevant, engaging, and complex texts, we are able to open up a new door for students to explore the world of literature that does not feel daunting or disconnected from who students are.

Students who discover that reading is entertaining, or actually enjoyable will be more likely to become lifelong readers. Thus, students open themselves to also be lifelong learners beyond their classrooms.
