My class is filled with children with special needs. We have kids with a ton of energy and it would be great to find more ways to direct that energy in positive ways. They enjoy princess and things like that. They also are big fans of art projects and YouTube videos. In fact, we use iPad and YouTube time as incentives.
They like interactive videos and video games, especially ones with bright colors and fun characters.
My Project
Sometimes a weighted blanket is all one needs to calm down little. Special needs children are no different. Sometimes a weighted blanket blanket makes all the difference. Weighted blankets have proven their effectiveness at helping special needs children calm down. The weight allows them to relax and breathe without getting too excited which is exactly what is needed to sometimes all their bodies down.
Our wheelchair bound student also uses weighted blankets and shoulder pads to help him build up strength in his arm muscles.
He would also make great use of the bib when we feed him at lunch time. This would help make clean up much easier, and keep him clean.
