This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students in kindergarten through fifth grade LOVE “The Little Spot of Feeling” books! Taking “picture walks”, character modeling, reading to each other or by their self, and discussing strategies brings a smile, a laugh, or a connection comment, “That’s how I feel!”

Students feel validated that it’s okay to feel whatever they feel.

These books help teach students to identify the feeling with the emotion and what that looks like in each other. For example, two years ago, my second grade group added the feeling, “I don’t know.” because sometimes you have no idea what you’re feeling.

My hope is through students having access to different “A Little Spot of Feeling” books they are able to learn and understand more feelings, more ways to express those feeling, and feel recognized and acknowledged.
