Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

This will be my third year teaching third grade! I wanted to give my students a little bit of everything. Students begin writing a lot in third, so you can imagine the amount of pencils we go through. The past two years, we’ve used old privacy boards when testing and they were such a distraction because other students had written on them and poked holes in them. The new ones will minimize any distractions and help keep them focused.

My students suggested that I update and change the classroom library.

I decided to take their advice, but need your help. New baskets, books, and labels will help me revamp our library. Their input was important because it allowed me to see how I could appeal to their love of reading. They also suggested having “fun” decorative pencils and desk pets. Desk pets are simply animal eraser tops used as an incentive. The final update would be changing half of my blackboard to a dry-erase board using the dry-erase contact paper.
