Be part of a student's journey to become a published author! I teach sophomore English at an small urban public high school that promotes leadership development and social justice. Most of my students will be the first in their families to attend college. We believe that high expectations, when combined with strong relationships, lead to closing the achievement gap.

One big challenge we face is the digital divide. My sophomores write and publish a 40-page manuscript, but sadly, they spend as much time dealing with technology issues as they do perfecting their pieces. That's because, like many schools in California, we have no money for technology. None! Our limited computers are 10 years old and still run only because of many hours of volunteer upkeep.

It's time for a change! My students don't have time to wait for a new $750 desktop. That's why I am asking for you to fund a Linux-based PC. With Xubuntu installed, my students will have no problem writing, editing, and saving their books with Google Docs.

Please consider supporting this project! Your contribution will help my students with their writing without having to deal with the frustration of antiquated technology.
