My Students
My students need to develop a lifetime passion for reading and a sense of personal agency about their own reading. Some of the students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations. Author’s Purpose Teaching Center Along with the multilevel library can help them do so.
My special needs students are all diagnosed with Autism.
They attend school in the Northern section of the Bronx. All of our students receive free or reduced lunch. They face many challenges on a daily basis (physically, socially and academically). It is very difficult to find appropriate supplies to motivate and cater to their needs. My students are in a 6:1:1 self-contained classroom setting. They receive speech and language therapy occupational therapy and physical therapy. They range in ages from 9-11 Although they are of varying abilities, each of them show great interest in reading centers. Hands on materials/projects prove to be effective teaching tools in my classroom.
Author’s Purpose Teaching Center, Multilevel Nonfiction Book Sets, along with Lakeshore Learning Materials High Interest Intervention Reading Folders would all help my students build their on their comprehension and become better readers.
My Project
These wonderful materials will help my students become responsible for building their own reading life. We will be using the Authors Purpose Teaching Center, Multilevel Nonfiction Book Sets, along with Lakeshore Learning Materials High Interest Intervention Reading Folders daily.
My students will become closer to achieving their personal goals. Reading with fluency, building on their comprehension, accuracy and with appropriate rate and expression.
These materials will give my students greater access to achieving their personal goals and give them greater exposer to the common core.
It will help them develop their confidence and love for reading.
