This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a special education 12:1 class in the Bronx, NY. My students are special because they work hard and challenge themselves to do well. They are funny, kind, and they make me love my job! My students LOVE reading (chapter book series), writing (with research) and math! My students do not have the same experiences and resources as others may have in a non-high needs area, so I try to make sure my students have as much as I can possibly give them. Unfortunately one resource that my classroom is very low on is books! The majority of my students read on a 2nd-3rd (mostly) grade level and I do not have many fun and engaging books for them.

My Project

If I am lucky enough to receive materials for my classroom.. my students will have more of a variety of books to choose from. They love to read on our class rug but I’m sure they will love comfy pillows even more! My students also love series books such as Goosebumps, Judy Blume, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and more! Unfortunately I do not have enough of these books for my students. If I had more of these books, I feel my students would be more engaged to follow through with the entire book. I would allow my students to take these books home to read with their siblings or parents
