Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are curious, creative, and hardworking. They love to learn new things. Our school focuses on serving economically disadvantaged students by providing an exceptional education that prepares all students for college, career, and life. One of the ways we accomplish this is to create a classroom culture that values our diverse backgrounds and races. We spend time every day working in groups and partnerships to build a bond and help each other learn. My students enjoy reading and working with their peers.

My Project

“Books are sometimes windows, offering views of worlds that may be real or imagined, familiar or strange. These windows are also sliding glass doors, and readers have only to walk through in imagination to become part of whatever world has been created or recreated by the author. When lighting conditions are just right, however, a window can also be a mirror. Literature transforms human experience and reflects it back to us, and in that reflection we can see our own lives and experiences as part of a larger human experience. Reading, then, becomes a means of self-affirmation, and readers often seek their mirrors in books.” ― Rudine Sims Bishop

The books that are included in this project will be added to our classroom library.

Students of color will have books that have main characters they can relate to. Books with characters who look, live, and love like them. These books will also be used for class read-a-louds as a basis for classroom discussion around valuing all races and cultures. Please help us add to our classroom library so there will be books for all my students to connect to.
