My students love to read! Every time I bring a book into my music classroom, my students can not wait to see what the book is going to be about, and how we are going to use it to help us learn music. I teach K-5 Music in a Charter School in Brooklyn, NY. I have found that using books in my classroom not only helps to enrich reading skills, but helps students to internalize musical concepts and look at them in a different way. It provides visual cues and helps students of various learning styles to better understand music. Because of this, I would like to start a music library in my classroom. I have carefully selected books that can be used in musical activities. Some books are rhyming and rhythmic and will be chanted out loud in call-and-response style. Some books have repeating sections that we can make into a song. Others have characters that we can use instruments to represent. While still others are informational books -biographies of musicians and information on musical styles. There are so many ways we can use books in music! I would love to have a variety of books that will enhance students' reading and their musical skills. My students would use your gift over and over again, for years to come. Thank you so much for your consideration!
