This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Title One elementary school is located in East New York, Brooklyn which is a dynamic neighborhood of many different cultures and people. Our school reflects this diversity in our constantly changing student population.

My new ESL (English as a Second Language) classroom is composed mostly of Bengali and Hispanic students.

I'm challenged to provide a material rich learning environment for those students who are not only dealing with learning second grade curricula but also learning the English language.

I am so excited to be back at school and I'm determined that my students will achieve and succeed!

My Project

Small group instruction allows me to focus on the needs of each student and help them better understand what is being taught. ESL students are so overwhelmed with the whole group dynamic and I want to provide a smaller and safe learning space.

I'm requesting a Kaplan kidney shape learning table and four chairs which will be used to seat small groups for reading and math instruction.

This table and matching chairs will provide the students with a space where they can have more time to process and comprehend the lessons and also better work with their fellow students. Small groups also give me the the chance to understand my students better so I can differentiate my lesson to accommodate their learning styles. The table will also be used by the ELL Coach who pushes in throughout the week.
