My Students

In our classroom we thrive on routine. Our students learn though repetition of daily functional living skills. The students all face physical and mental challenges and can not access the environment like their typical peers. My goal is to give them the access they need to succeed.

My students are all labeled as severe intellectually challenged.

They are all nonverbal and have some type of visual impairment. The school I teach at is fabulous....we are self-contained and are structured to give our population the most we can. My own child was a student at this school and I admired it to the point that I became a teacher here.

My Project

Having a class laptop in the classroom will allow the students to communicate through programs like eye gaze systems. They can also use the laptop to access the Promethean board that they can not reach due to physical limitations. With their visual impairments, being able to hold a laptop and examine the information on it at a close range will be wonderful for them.

How will a laptop change my students' lives?

This laptop will allow my students to "have a voice" and will let them make a choice about what they want to say and learn. The world will be open for them!
