This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

I love coding. My computer science class allows me to share this love of coding by working with my students to allow them to create their very own websites from scratch. Seeing kids enthusiastic about working with better laptops to produce more quality work really excites me. Three of my students, Latrell, Julius and Gabriel are leading the project.

My students simply became tired of using our outdated laptops to produce quality hand coded websites and not getting the results they want to achieve. They want to use more user-friendly and higher-quality laptops to produce more quality work. This project will be worth it, especially when I get to see all the magnificent work that is produced.

With the new laptop my students will be using computer programs such as Scratch, a tool that teaches simple programming which allows them to create their own projects like games and animations. Scratch is only really effective with more high-end laptops and computers so they’ll need to be able to use high performing laptops as such. They'll also use programs such as Notepad which allows them to use more sophisticated coding techniques which allows them to build great-looking simple websites. They'll also be responsible for showing these new skills to their classmates by hosting their own coding workshops, a thing they have wanted to do for a very long time. These boys are very enthusiastic about coding and are eager to share it with their classmates and I'm very glad to see there are kids very interesting about the world of coding and programming.

In Their Own Words

We want to be able to use coding as a means to create websites that will absolutely pop! We want to be able to use a faster performing laptop as a means to help us with basic coding functions that will help us effectively create web programs, as well as be able to make our own webpages for people to browse.

We are taking responsibility for the rest of the class. We feel like if we are successful here we can be successful anywhere. We plan on using the laptop to help us. This will develop our coding skills for when we are learning coding in college.

This project is important to us because we really want to learn how to code. This project will allow us to develop the skill for something we are all very passionate about. The new laptop will also help people learn how to code simply and easily as well as get people interested about the joys of computer science.
